Airsoft
Equipment
Airsoft is a fun and exciting hobby, but it does require a
minimum amount of equipment for safety reasons. Also, as you participate
longer in the sport, you will find yourself needing other pieces of
equipment to help give you that edge in the skirmish that will keep you
alive. A basic airsoft equipment list is provided below, along with an
image of an airsoft 'operator' ready to take the field. You can purchase
airsoft AEGs and gear at many of the retailers
listed on our website.

Minimum Gear
At a minimum you'll need:
- Automatic Electric Gun (AEG) - This is what you
will use to eliminate others during the skirmish or operation. You want
a reliable weapon that shoots, at a minimum, of around 300fps for
outdoor play. Many AEGs are upgraded to enhance performance. You should
have a battery for your gun, as well as extra magazines for longer
skirmishes.
- Safety Goggles - No one is allowed on the field
during play without wearing safety goggles. This includes all
participants, spectators and journalists filming the event. Goggles must
be worn at all times.
- A "Dead Rag" - This simple red bandana or shop rag
will be used to indicate when you are 'hit' to other players. This is
the only thing that stops others from shooting you when they see you.
Call your hits and put your dead rag on your head.
- Military or Hiking Boots - You will need some sort
of over the ankle boots to help protect your joints during a skirmish or
operation. Most operations require boots for your protection, as
they offer better support than even trail running shoes. You can
use hiking boots if you have them. Typically, you'll want to match the
boots to your selected uniform.
Additional Gear
In addition to the basic airsoft gear listed above, you'll also
want some additional equipment to be competitive on the field. This
includes:
- Tactical Vest - This on epiece of equipment allows
you to have access to extra clips, as well as carry your water, dead
rag, radio and other field gear you may need. There are many
inexpensive vests and chest rigs available.
- Uniform or BDUs - We highly
recommend you invest in some BDUs or uniform clothing. When you get your
uniform, you should include a hat or other covering for your head. Once
you have been approved as an ARRA Team Member, we also
recommend that you purchase your uniforms through our Corporate Sponsor,
Copstuff to
recieve the team discount. The ARRA Team's Official Uniform is the
Crye Multicams but depending on the Operational
Environment we can also field: Tiger Stripes, 3 and 6 color Desert, both
Digital Desert and Woodland Marpat (Marine), ACUs, and Woodland
BDUs.
- Protective Pads - Knee and elbow pads prove
beneficial when moving about close to the ground or when you're under
fire. Many airsoft operators get by with just a single knee pad in the
woods, while others prefer a complete set. For close quarters battle
(CQB) skirmishes and operations, elbow pads help protect you from sharp
edges and splinters on walls and door frames.
- Two Way Radio - A radio is a good way to help stay
in contact with your team while you're out in the field. As with other
gear choices, you can find radios priced from the inexpensive to the
outrageous. One accessoriy you should definitely consider for the radio
is a remote microphone and ear piece. This should allow you to
communicate with your team without being detected by people out in the
field.
