Fire Blossom IV – Operation Bright Rain

The Arkansas Rebel Recon Airsoft team recently hosted Fire Blossom IV – Operation Bright Rain. The event was held March 20th in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The last three events brought together players from Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Mississippi and Arkansas.

This year's event was held at the Direct Action Resource Center training facility. The event surpased the previous events and set a new standard for the ARRA operations. Below is the background information for the event. Go to the ARRA Forum to find out more details, see pictures and read reactions from participants.

Back Story

Project: Fire Blossom is dead. The weaponized contagion project, which has been compromised by repeated security failures and setbacks, was recently canceled. The Arkansas Defense Forces (ADF)  have decided to pull funding from the scientists and private contractors developing the project to investigate other options. Instead, interest has been focused on remote UAV’s that can operate globally without risk to ADF personnel.

The Doctor in charge of the original Fire Blossom weapon reacted poorly to this change, apparently suffering a mental break down under the pressure. The Mad Doctor has been deemed a security risk because of information he has related to other ADF military procedures and facilities. Many groups would find the information the Mad Doctor to be very useful for their purposes, including the Invading Expeditionary Armies (IEA). The ADF government, fearing security issues, decided to assist the doctor. The government planned a psychiatric evaluation and sent medical personnel to retrieve to the doctor.

Before the physician team could arrive however, members of the IEA managed to spirit the Doctor away. The ADF government fears the IEA organization will extract sensitive information from the Doctor, even with his mind in a shambles. An IEA team is believed to have escaped with the doctor into a lawless area along the border region, between the ADF region and the IEA border.

After helping the Mad Doctor escape during the incursion of forces into Carnage City, the IEA sought to cause further instability in the region. Using knowledge gained from the Mad Doctor, Chinese and Russian programmers, financed by the IEA, launched a cyber attack against ADF government and military computer systems. The ADF were able to counter the attack, but some computer systems were compromised. ADF technicians are working to fix the problems caused by the doctor’s malicious acts, however the full extent of the penetration is not yet known.

While dealing with the Mad Doctor’s treachery and failed projects, researchers continued to move forward on new defensive weapons. One promising weapon, a UAV code named Bright Rain, has received the go ahead from the ADF military. Bright Rain is a next generation UAV that was developed with the latest in stealth capabilities, including new ceramic materials in the skin of the craft that help deflect radar and IR. In addition, the UAV is designed to carry a much larger payload than existing UAVs, including larger conventional weapons and even tactical nuclear weapons.

It is well known, though not officially confirmed, that the ADF has a collection of tactical nuclear weapons. This gives the small country a large deterrence footprint on the North American continent.

Several tests for the new UAV have been completed, with the UAV performing better than expected. More tests are scheduled, including a flight with a dummy munitions payload and a weapons drop test. However, it seems the IEA’s electronic attack scrambled the code for one of the tactical nuclear weapons, with the inventory system assigning the live warhead a number reserved for practice/dummy munitions. During the test it appears that, instead of carrying a dummy weapon, the Bright Rain UAV carried a live tactical nuclear warhead.

Unfortunately, this was only discovered after the UAV had reached the remote testing grounds near the lawless area. Before the testing mission could be called off or the craft could be ordered to return to the landing field, it was brought down by an advanced IEA surface-to-air missile. The wreckage is scattered over a large area of a local village, and includes sensitive technologies. It is also believed that portions of the surface-to-air missile. If materials from the UAV fell into the wrong hands, the ADF’s security would be severely compromised. In addition, if there are any portions of the missile, the IEA may lose technological ground to the ADF.
